A new way to blog
83degrees blog
We recently completed an overhaul to our parent company's website. In the process we had to decide how to engage folks and keep them up to date. Instead of doing a standard WordPress install or hosting on another service, we decided to play around a bit.

The ways that folks are "blogging" are just beginning to splinter and you will most likely see a lot of innovation in this space. This is our first pass (a couple of days!) at a new way to blog. Comments have been given parity. We are using twitter and Facebook as authentication systems and we have tried to keep things lean and clean.

We have several additional related projects in the works. Please give us feedback. Would you use something like this for your own website? What about as a hosted service? How would you like to see blogging and content management software evolve?
Hillary H Hillary H I am fascinated by the multi-site integration here. Good work! And may be picking your brain about how to pull it off successfully.Congrats on launching the new site!
quepol quepol Congrats on the new site! Very cool Twitter integration. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
biz biz @narendra very cool!
oesterle oesterle nice work, great idea on the integration
drthomasho drthomasho This is an intriguing idea because I'm much more likely to blog from Twitter. Imagine feeling less 'guilty being on twitter!
narendra narendra @drthomasho Facebook has a large reach, high degree of personalization, and reliable social accountability at the moment.
drthomasho drthomasho Do you know of anyone using SyncMyCal30Boxes http://tinyurl.com/2cx43h I'm getting ready to try it again.
Scobleizer Scobleizer wow, very interesting new way to blog. Gonna play around more.
robliberal robliberal Trying a post to see if I show up
heiko heiko let's see if this works.
melmcbride melmcbride twitterblog is cool but what about signal/noise issues? Seems that's a big one with twitter (given absence of shared standards)
83degrees 83degrees @melmcbride - we can moderate what appears on the actual blog. A discussion on single twitter account it is sort of a de facto "group"
drnormal drnormal Twitter can be a rich comment platform. I was thinking lightweight Tumblr blog (no comments) + Twitter for comments
webstyler webstyler really cool cross platform communication, go for it!
83degrees 83degrees @drnormal agreed. we are going to experiment a lot. @webstyler thanks!
DonDahlmann DonDahlmann Nice Idea. But thinking about usability. Read the blog, comment on Twitter?
otis otis you mind posting a how-to on this? It's a great idea, nice work.
CemB CemB congratulations. very cool concept.
011i 011i cool ;-)
dominik dominik Interesting. (Uh, how "me, too" was that?)
Justine E Justine E Very interesting!
83degrees 83degrees @jhofker - our dashboard lets you link @ replies to any post. Still needs some figuring. @dondahlmann you can comment directly as well. Twitter replies have the added benefit of automatically "promoting" a conversation to people who follow you.
jhofker jhofker That's pretty neat! I'd imagine with a lot of replies, the manual process might get kind of overwhelming.
Otis K Otis K I'd love to use something like this on my website, it seems perfect for something I'm working on.

83degrees 83degrees @shanev our admin tool lets us tie twitter replies to posts. Of course post replies will come on the most recent post.
